CVOS Kickstart Welcome Message
Welcome to the Coastal Virginia Open Source (CVOS) Meetup!
CVOS aims to bring together our region’s Open Source Software users and enthusiasts to explore, discuss, teach and learn from one another. The Federal government has mandated the use of Open Source Software wherever possible as long as it can be acquired with support and maintains a security STIG. Due to its pervasiveness in this community, the idea of creating a dedicated OSS meetup was born.
CVOS is sponsored by Emergent, a local software reseller serving the Federal, DoD, and State and Local markets. Emergent works with both OSS OEMs and traditional software OEMs such as Red Hat, Adobe, FireEye, Symantec, Google and a number of other vendors.
The CVOS team is open to ideas on how to kickstart (pun intended) future meetups so that we meet the needs of the community. Early ideas are to invite Red Hat Solution Architects to go over tech preview concepts, local Sys Admins for their best practices, Docker to talk about containerization, and anyone else who wants to highlight what they are doing with open source in their organization. For more information "About Us", click here to download an informational document.
Down the road, we envision CVOS offering scholarships to help creators of all ages jump-start their tech careers, further supporting our OSS community and creating a flashpoint/epicenter for continued technology growth in our region.
Emergent is excited to sponsor the first CVOS "Kickstart" Meetup event on Thursday, September 14 from 5:00-6:30pm at the Harbor Club within the Waterside District. Come out, invite your friends and coworkers, and let’s see where this leads.
See ya in September!
