Emergent’s Sean Walsh Talks Open Source in FedScoop Interview
At the 2016 Red Hat Government Symposium last month, Emergent’s Red Hat JBoss Team Lead, Sean Walsh, sat down with FedScoop to discuss open source adoption throughout the federal government.
Walsh believes “open source adoption is going to drive innovation across the federal space,” and also points out that open source conversation is happening everywhere, which creates a snowball effect that “[could not] be stopped if you tried.”
Walsh addressed the issue of open source and potential cyber security vulnerabilities by explaining that although open source software allows us to open the code up so that customers, end users, and potentially threat vectors can see what is being created, there are still "all of those eyes working on a project...you're closing up holes, and the community embraces the model, and [they] want to contribute."
Walsh goes further by stating, “Red Hat is a shining example of how open source software can be more secure than proprietary counterparts.”
